Kirby, Come to Merry Magoland! - Chapter 10: The Manager's Farewell

"Heyyy there everyone! Did you have fun?" Magolor smiled brightly as he surveyed the crowd.

Now that the fierce battle inside of the Lor had come to an end, everyone was now gathered in Magoland's Entrance Plaza. The four Sphere Doomers, having received first aid from the Waddle Dee squad, looked as good as new. They fluttered their wings with satisfaction, answering Magolor's question.

"Fun, huh? I'm glad! But you were very naughty children, breaking the rules like that. Follow the rules properly next time, okay?"

Now, the Sphere Doomers folded their wings and sat up straight, obediently. As if to say, we're sorry.

"As long as you understand. I'm sooo happy I was able to give you all a fun time!"

"Whaddaya mean, sooo happy!" King Dedede was bluntly angry. "You were tricking us after all, weren't you?!"

Magolor blinked in surprise, both hands flying to his mouth. "Whaaa?! What are you talking about? I haven't done anything of the sort!"

Meta Knight said, "You hid the fact that you were capable of such powerful magical attacks. Even when the Sphere Doomers were running wild and making a mess of things, you pretended that you were helpless to lend any assistance…"

"It's not like that. All I wanted was for my customers to enjoy themselves…" Magolor shook his head, looking troubled.

Kirby cut in, "That's right! It's not Magolor's fault. He gave me a copy ability and saved me!"

"That is another suspicious matter," said Meta Knight, in a severe tone. "Magolor, what was that copy ability?"

"Hmmm? I don't understand the question… It's called Mecha. It's a very spectacular copy ability…"

"Did you create it yourself? A copy ability with that much power… For what purpose was it made?"

Magolor was becoming more and more timid under the interrogation. "That was… a stamp card prize…"

"...Prize?"

"A special present for collecting 3000 stamps…"

"3000?!" King Dedede shouted. "That's way too many! Put it on discount for three!"

"No, that isn't the issue with that story," Meta Knight said sharply. "You say it was a prize, but only Kirby could make use of a copy ability. Why would you make a prize like that?"

Magolor sagged down, head drooping as he answered. "It wasn't just Kirby. I made something like that for everyone… Meta Knight has the Galaxy's Strongest Weapons Catalog, King Dedede has the Super High-Quality Meat and Luxury Sweets Assortment, our special little Waddle Dee has the Magolor Apron and Magolor Vacuum…"

The look in King Dedede's eyes changed. Now, he was shouting for a very different reason. "Whaaaat?! A meat and sweets assortment?! I want it! Fork it over right now!"

"If you want it, then collect 3000 stamps. I wanted everyone to be happy with their prizes… I thought of something special for each and every one of you…" Magolor kept looking down at the ground, awkward.

"A prize, truly…? I see. So that's how it was." Meta Knight nodded, finally convinced.

Bandanna Waddle Dee smiled and said, "Kirby was saved thanks to that thoughtfulness. At any rate, I'm glad no one was hurt. Even the Sphere Doomers look like they had fun!"

The Sphere Doomers, maybe realizing they were the subject of the conversation again, flew around happily.

Meta Knight sounded grudgingly pleased as he spoke. "These Sphere Doomers must be only children after all. They never had any ill intentions from the beginning. They may have gotten carried away and run amok, but they had plenty of fun here at Magoland."

"Yeah, and they were a pain in the butt to yours truly while they were at it!" King Dedede huffed.

Magolor's head popped back up. Brightly, he said, "I'm always happy to see a satisfied customer! I'm sooo grateful, I even prepared some souvenirs!"

"Souvenirs?"

"Yup. For the Sphere Doomers!" Magolor handed out four paper bags to each of them in turn. "A grab bag with a Magolor handkerchief, a Magolor plushie, and a Magolor music box for each of you. Even back at home in Another Dimension, take one look at these goods and remember how much fun you had at Merry Magoland!"

"...Nkyukyu!" The Sphere Doomers raised their voices as they accepted the gift bags, sounding moved.

"Bye-bye! Stay safe out there! Come again sometime!" Magolor waved them off.

The small Sphere Doomers looked reluctant as they flapped their wings to leave. A star-shaped hole opened in space. The four of them, as if sucked in, disappeared into Another Dimension.

"Well, all right… How's about we head back to Dream Land, too?" King Dedede asked, stretching his arms up high.

Magolor said, "I can get the shuttle bus ready!"

"Shuttle bus?"

"Yep! I had to work around the clock, but now it's up and running. It's powered by magic. I call it the Magolor Bus! You'll be back in Dream Land in no time!"

Magolor raised a hand, hailing a small bus that drove up from Magolor Castle. The destination was displayed on front as "To DREAM LAND ~ Via HALBERD".

Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, Bandanna Waddle Dee, and the Waddle Dee cast members piled into the bus, one after another. Everyone faced the windows, gazing out longingly. It was a bittersweet parting.

"Before you go, I'd like to hear everyone's feedback…" Magolor prompted. "Did you think Merry Magoland was fun…?"

Kirby nodded forcefully. "Yeah! It was super fun! All the attractions were interesting, and the food was delicious, and the hotel felt nice, and the Mecha copy ability was so cool!"

"Yaaay! I'm sooo glad!" Magolor was jumping for joy.

King Dedede folded his arms and said, haughtily, "Hmph… Can't say I enjoyed those Sphere Doomers goin' on a rampage… But, well, all's well that ends well. It turned out pretty fun in the end. Not too shabby. I've revised my opinion of you, Magolor!"

Bandanna Waddle Dee smiled and nodded in agreement. "It was such a wonderful theme park. I hope the customers keep pouring in!"

The Waddle Dee cast members were falling all over themselves as they piled to press their faces to the windows. All of them were shouting words of encouragement.

"It was so so sooooo much fun to get to help!"

"I wanted to keep working there!"

"I wanna come back! I wanna try working at the hotel next time!"

Meta Knight had an air of formality around him as he offered his apology. "Magolor, I said some very harsh things to you, and about you… I apologize. I can see now that you have reflected long and hard on your past actions. Let us leave everything up until now as water under the bridge. I wish for the success of your theme park."

Magolor absorbed all of these kind, warm words from everyone, and suddenly spun around, turning his back to the shuttle bus.

Kirby called out, "Magolor? What's wrong?"

They could see that Magolor's body was shaking faintly.

"...What's up?" King Dedede spoke in an uncharacteristically soft and earnest voice. "Don't tell me you're crying? That's downright cute. I didn't think you'd be that happy with all the praise…"

However.

They could hear him now, too. And that wasn't crying. That was the sound of stifled laughter.

"Hehehe… Ha ha ha…"

Magolor whirled back around, and threw himself to the ground, rolling in laughter. He could no longer contain himself, voice loud and bright.

"Ahaha! Ahahaha! Aaaaa ha ha haaaaa!"

"M… Magolor…?"

Everyone in the shuttle bus was faltering at this strange behavior.

"Wh-What happened, all of a sudden?" asked Kirby. "Magolor, why are you laughing…?"

"It's just… It's just… You're all just so, really, all I can say is, congratulations!" Magolor was laughing himself to tears, wiping at his eyes.

King Dedede stared, dumbfounded. "Congratulations? For what?"

"Everything went exactly according to plan! Hehehe… I really have to thank you!" Magolor was acting completely differently than he was just a short while ago. His voice sounded raw and erratic, like it was coming from the deepest depths of his soul.

Meta Knight came to his senses, clutching his sword. "Magolor…?! Could it be that you were plotting something after all…?!"

"Uhuhu! Why do you think I invited you all here to Merry Magoland? Just to show you all a fun time? Hm hm hm…! You don't really believe it was that easy, do you?"

"Magolor!"

Meta Knight tried to leap out of the window, but the window glass swiftly closed shut. The powerful, reinforced glass didn't crack in the slightest, even when beaten or hit with a sword.

Magolor had an eerie gleam in his eyes. "While you've all been enjoying yourselves here in Merry Magoland, what do you think has been happening outside? On the Battleship Halberd… At Castle Dedede…"

"What…?!"

"I've sent out some very special presents. Your subordinates… and all the citizens of Dream Land… they must be entranced by the gifts I've given them!"

"Presents?! What did you give them…?!"

Meta Knight kept pounding on the glass, but instead of giving in, the heartless shuttle bus began to move.

"Stop! Stop the bus…!"

Meta Knight and King Dedede raced towards the driver's seat. But the Magolor Bus ran on magic—it was a self-driving vehicle. There was no driver, and no way to stop the bus themselves.

King Dedede shouted at the top of his lungs. "Magolorrrrrr! That jerk had an evil plan all along…!"

Kirby, confused, asked, "Evil plan? Magolor? That can't be right. 'Cuz, Magolor reflected on what he did. And then he became our friend…"

"We were tricked, yet again!" Meta Knight shot back angrily. "I knew it. He invited me to his so-called Merry Magoland so that I would be separated from the Halberd. King Dedede is in the same position. He wanted Castle Dedede to be unattended, and while our backs were turned, he…"

King Dedede pulled at his own hat in frustration, wailing. "That's what I saaaaaid! We can never, ever trust that guy!"

"Were you not the one who said you revised your opinion of Magolor?"

"I-I didn't really mean that! Anyway, you're the one who said it was all water under the bridge, you sucker! He got you good!"

Seeing that the two of them were on the brink of getting into a fight, Bandanna Waddle Dee hurried to step in between them. "Let's focus on the Halberd and Castle Dedede. I'm worried about what might be happening there! He said that he sent them some kind of presents, but…"

"What presents?!" King Dedede's voice was sounding more and more hysterical. "Some kind of device to brainwash everyone and take over Dream Land!?"

Meta Knight groaned, clasping his hands together as if in prayer. "What could he have done to my crew…? Please, everyone, stay safe until I arrive…!"

The inside of the Magolor Bus was a frantic mess, but on the outside, the bus kept chugging along down the road, paying it no mind.

After everyone else was gone, Magolor went back to the Lor, laughing in satisfaction.

"Hehehehe! The looks on their faces were just priceless! ...Well, I guess I couldn't really see what Meta Knight's face looked like under there… But I could just tell. I'm sure his face looked white as a ghost! Ahahahaha!"

The Lor's screen blipped and flickered. It almost seemed as if it was trying to give Magolor a talking-to.

Magolor looked up at the screen, spreading his hands out in a wide gesture. "Come on! They were sooo mean to me! Meta Knight tore my heart to shreds with all those things he said, that merciless bully! And don't even get me started on King Dedede…!"

Magolor pulled out a squashed, empty box. It was the box that held the cake that King Dedede had stolen to eat.

"I made this cake for Kirby…! All he needed was 30,000 stamps, and then I was going to give him this very special Kirby Cake… And Dedede shoved it all in his mouth for free! I'm never ever ever forgiving him! You think I could sleep at night if I didn't get my revenge?!"

The blips from the Lor's screen sounded tired of this discussion.

Magolor finally cleaned up the empty box, clapping his hands to brush off the last crumbs. "Allllrighty then! Time to start the repairs on the tragically broken Magolor Castle. We can't expect to have many satisfied customers with our product in this state! You're going to be helping too, Lor!"

The Lor's screen lit up, shining brightly.
