The Sound of Kirby Café 1 & 2

Greeting (from The Sound of Kirby Café 1)

Kirby Café opened in the summer of 2016. Songs from many different titles in the series were used as building blocks to create BGM to play in the store. We made a total of 12 songs with "café" as the common theme, with arrangements that evoke a variety of imagery—from basking in the sun, to a sudden desire to dance, to even a mature jazzy feel. It is our pleasure to give you this CD so you can take the atmosphere of Kirby Cafe with you wherever you go, whether it's your household sofa or a trip downtown.

Sincerely,
The Kirby Café Staff

01. Verdant Café Terrace / Green Greens
from Kirby's Dream Land / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

It's a bit of a different flavor, but I attempted to arrange it in such a way that the first half of the song echoes the Planet Robobot version, rearranged with only the original Green Greens melodic phrase.

02. A Very Buttery Building / Butter Building
from Kirby's Adventure / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

The theme is still "café," but it's fine for maybe just one of the remixes to incorporate some old-fashioned beeps and boops, right? That's what I thought, anyway, and so I tried to include only a modest amount, so as not to disturb the relaxed atmosphere.

03. Gourmet! Carnival / Clash! Gourmet Race
from Kirby Super Star / arranged by Jun Ishikawa

The first song I finished was "Sixty-four / VS. Zero-Two," which ended up with a rainy day kind of sound. So, I made this song second, and gave it a sunny day feel. I had the image of everyone eating together. (Though of course eating alone is fine too, in my personal opinion.)

04. In a Puffy Paradise / Cloudy Park ~ Ripple Field
from Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Dream Land 3 / arranged by Megumi Ohara

My intention in making this was less of an easy-listening café song, and more of a song that would, as much as possible, make you feel invigorated, excited, and entertained listening to it.

05. Sunbeams Filtering Through the Leaves at Tea Time / Forest/Nature Area
from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror / arranged by Jun Ishikawa

When I first finished this song, the director told me to make it livelier. So despite what it is now, it's significantly livelier than it originally was. There's a lot of power poured into those sounds echoing from afar.

06. Oasis of Tranquility / Air Ride: Sky Sands
from Kirby Air Ride / arranged by Shogo Sakai

I tried to turn down the Middle Eastern vibes while still keeping the parts that made it Sky Sands in the first place. Makes a great accompaniment to a cup of tea. Just like in the original song, the chorus is all Sakai, with multiple Sakai vocal tracks layered on top of each other, while the flute is the sound rookie Ohara.

07. Sunset Tower / Sky Tower
from Kirby's Return to Dream Land / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

The original is a pretty fast-paced song, but it was a pretty short song no matter how leisurely I tried to play it, so I thought up a new middle to the song in order to adjust the length.

08. Sweet Honey, Delicate Blossom / Mysterious Trap ~ The World to Win
from Kirby: Triple Deluxe / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

For this song, I had the ulterior motive of making a song with only two types of timbre and absolutely no percussion, to see how I could make something that wouldn't eventually get tiresome under those conditions. It's a fairly simple sound, but now I've put out my own particular quirk into the world, I think.

09. The King and Witch's Rendezvous / Kirby Series Spinoff Medley
from Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, Kirby: Canvas Curse, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse / arranged by Megumi Ohara

A medley of three boss fight themes. The hardest part was making the arrangement of CROWNED sound like the Drum Dash version.

10. Sixty-four / VS. Zero-Two
from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards / arranged by Jun Ishikawa

This is the first song I arranged. Rain. Coffee. Looking out the window. Memories of the past. What is yet to come. By that time I already knew a CD was coming out, so I made it to be suitable to listen to by yourself late at night.

11. Eating a Meal and Having a Dream / Milky Way Wishes Staff Roll
from Kirby Super Star / arranged by Jun Ishikawa

I poured a lot into this song that I can't do in a game soundtrack but which is perfect for a café soundtrack. The meandering twists and turns mean the song is rather long, but finally completing this at the very end, I was satisfied.

12. Café de Planet / Pink Ball Activate! ~ The Noble Haltmann
from Kirby: Planet Robobot / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

I combined and arranged the songs that are the main symbols of Planet Robobot. I tried to line up the sounds so that even if the melody is bright and cheerful, parts of it could be used to sing the company song, and the Robobot atmosphere was preserved.

[The Sound of Kirby Café 2]

A reformation of the café sound. For this order, we entrusted much of the preparation to the younger staff. The result is an assortment of tunes born from the combination of the familiar HAL sound team with fresh, unique personalities. We hope this dish is to your liking.

- Kirby series General Director, Shinya Kumazaki

01. Birth of a Sparkling Star
from Kirby Star Allies / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

What would a song have to sound like in order to feel like it's the first on a café CD, and also feel like Star Allies, and also feel like Kirby? This song is the culmination of that thought process.

02. The Crops of the Dancing Forest
from Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and Kirby Star Allies / arranged by Yuuta Ogasawara

The two forest songs give me a cool jazzy image when I listen to them, so I rolled with that. I wanted to tie the three songs together and evoke a story of passing through the forest to find yourself in a grassy meadow at the end.

03. Marionette Kitchen
from Kirby Super Star and Kirby's Return to Dream Land / arranged by Megumi Ohara

I arranged this song with the image of a bustling restaurant kitchen, with delicious cooking coming out one dish after another. I added just a tiny pinch of elegance to the second half with Magolor's theme, so if you can taste it, I'm happy.

04. Tomorrow's Tea Times
from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Kirby's Blowout Blast / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

I thought the Time Beam music was a special characteristic of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, and so I went with the concept of "let's stop time and take it slow," with some added mild techno flavor.

05. A Coffee Shop of Dusk and Stars
from Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra / arranged by Megumi Ohara

"My Friend and the Sunset" is a personal favorite song of mine, so I've daydreamed for a long time about how I would arrange it if I had the opportunity. I aimed for the atmosphere of a calm and retro coffee shop.

06. The King's Sparkling Full Course
from Kirby's Star Stacker / arranged by Jun Ishikawa

I usually write songs while taking inspiration from images, but this one came from the inspiration of the "flavor" of the feel of the chords or the feel of the reverb, and so on. This is probably the first time I've done something like this. Isn't Kirby Café delicious?

07. Brilliant Blue
from Kirby Battle Royale and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse / arranged by Megumi Ohara

I thought it'd be nice to have just one high-energy song on the café arrangement CD, so I put my all into making this a brisk remix. Even if you find yourself depressed for one reason or another, I hope this song can share some energy with you.

08. Holy Night's Sugar White
from Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby Air Ride / arranged by Shogo Sakai

I made this song to be appropriate for the Kirby Café's Christmas season opening. The echoing bells were a field recording taken in December in Vienna.

09. Bright of Dream
from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

I tried a jazzy flavor, while still focusing the arrangement on the Fountain of Dreams image and not the Gourmet Race. Among many medleys, I composed this song to follow the melody of one original song, leaving it mostly intact.

10. Monochrome Blend
from Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby: Squeak Squad / arranged by Shogo Sakai

This time, "the feel of a tree" was suggested as one of the keywords for the new Kirby Café, so I challenged myself with the two songs I was given, and used the instrument known as the cajón in place of the drum. Did you taste that woody flavor?

11. Memories of the Fragrance of Flowers and Sky
from Kirby: Triple Deluxe / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

There are some harder sounds included, but I overall aimed for a calm, acoustic type song.

12. Smile-Sisters & Gentleman
from Kirby Star Allies / arranged by Megumi Ohara

Director Kumazaki gave me the order to make it "a cute song, unlike the usual Three Mage Sisters," so I had the image of a floral pattern, and basically just tried to create some cute sounds with my arrangement.

13. Sleeping Mechanical Planet
from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards / arranged by Hirokazu Ando

The moment I learned we were planning this CD, even before any of the details were hashed out, the keywords "Factory Inspection jazz remix" appeared in my head, and I translated that directly into sounds.

14. One Day, That Dream, Too
from Super Kirby Clash / arranged by Yuki Shimooka

"Memories" is one of the keywords in the title of the original song, so I went with a gentle arrangement. Sitting under a tree, sun filtering through the leaves, eating a meal with everyone. That kind of warm moment together was my image.

15. GREEN WARMTH
from Kirby's Dream Land / arranged by Yuuta Ogasawara

"Green Greens" has been remixed so many times, so this time I went with a jazzy waltz style remix. I made it with the image of a new Green Greens feel, with just a little bit of maturity.

This year, the area around Whispy Woods was blessed with a forest harvest more bountiful than usual. Kirby's Dream Band, too, has picked up some new members, releasing a fresh new 15 songs.

We hope for you to feel the atmosphere of the new KIRBY CAFÉ at home, out on the town, or on the train.
