CHARACTER INFO
❥ Name: Taranza
❥ Canon: Kirby
❥ Canon Point: post-Star Allies
❥ Fandom OC Approval: N/A
❥ History: Wiki link!
❥ CRAU?: N/A
❥ Personality:
❥ Abilities:
❥ Extras: Would you like your characters abilities nerfed? What would you like them to lose or how will it be cut down? - I would like to keep his powers if possible! I imagine the brainwashing part of his manipulation powers will be less intense, but if another player consents and it comes up, I would like to be able to use the full extent of his control over people. Taranza isn't on the side of evil anymore, and doesn't want anyone getting mad at him, so he'll be more cautious about using it.
Did your character bring anything along (limit 3 items) with them? - Just one flower and one watering can.
Which god will they choose to support? Or do you wish to be randomized? - Taranza will pick Ainea, since he is grieving a loved one/basically leaving an abusive relationship, craving new sources of companionship, and trying to reform into one of the good guys and shed his manipulative and conflict-driven upbringing.
❥ Canon: Kirby
❥ Canon Point: post-Star Allies
❥ Fandom OC Approval: N/A
❥ History: Wiki link!
❥ CRAU?: N/A
❥ Personality:
- Taranza is part of the Sectra insectoid clan, and implied to be part of the nobility or higher ranks in that clan. Per word of god, the culture has an "obsession with beauty and desire for control". In accordance with this, Taranza is careful with his appearance and has a habit of acting superior to others. It also implies that even before magical items intervened to make them the main antagonists of their debut game, the Sectra clan was by nature a more conflict-driven and manipulative society than Kirby societies as a whole are—one reason why Taranza stayed with Sectonia even through her corruption, as it was not as dramatic a shift as it could have been.
- However, this antagonistic nature is more of a cultural trait than a personal one. On a personal level, Taranza is shown consistently to want to be of service to others—first to Sectonia, and then to Kirby and company. He is described as "lonely", and strives for approval and validation from the people around him. His desire for affection and attention is another part of what causes to him to remain with Sectonia for so long, even after she became increasingly cruel and abusive.
- Speaking of Sectonia, Taranza is a rare character in the Kirby games for having a love interest of any kind. Though he never confessed, his feelings for Sectonia are strongly implied to be romantic, and the magical object that corrupted her into a last boss was a present from Taranza that he obtained for her because he thought she might appreciate it. As a result, he is shown to be grieving for her after her defeat, and searching for a new direction for his unfulfilled feelings. In RP, this will make him wistful and willing to latch onto anyone who shows him positive emotion.
- In addition, particularly after Sectonia's defeat, Taranza is characterized as relatively depressed and "troubled". In spinoffs and alternate universes, the grief drives him to pursue ways to live in the past or desperately seek ways to bring her back. Even in Star Allies, part of the main canon timeline, Taranza is implied to be looking for a way to meet Sectonia again. Since for years his life was focused on her, it makes sense that he's left adrift without a clear direction for himself now that she's gone.
- So in summary, Taranza takes a roundabout route to become a tsundere, albeit a more desperate one than usual: He's better than you other people, but also, he wants you to pay attention to him and think that he's helpful and cool, please!! He's so lonely right now without his Queen to guide him...!
❥ Abilities:
- Master of Puppetry: This is the title Taranza is given in canon for his incredible ability to control other people and objects as if they were extensions of his own body. This spans the spectrum from carting objects and people around with magic similar to telekinesis, to completely controlling others both body and mind, making them fight for him. His almost-invisible spider threads can attach to people like puppet strings and subjugate them to fall under his control. Needless to say, this would not be done to another PC without explicit consent first! Also, there is no canon evidence that he can speak through their bodies—he only ever uses this power to control people to fight for him, so I will say that it is similar to puppetry in that way. Although he has fine control over their physical movements, and can subdue their will into no longer resisting him, he cannot impersonate them with their words. Also, I'm assuming the controlled people remember everything afterwards, as there isn't any evidence to the contrary.
- Magical Spider Webs: These are strings or webs that can catch enemies much like a real spider web, although they will dissipate into thin air after a while, as they are magically constructed. People who touch the webs will be immobilized and trapped in the strings. He can also shoot the strings by themselves to wrap people up. Or, he can make the webs safe to touch, for people to use as trampolines to jump on.
- Energy Balls: He can concentrate spheres of dark magic and throw them like balls, to hit enemies or to be whacked by other weapons for more momentum. He can also cause a sphere of this energy to form around himself.
- Other Magical Constructs: Taranza is shown creating a shadow of Sectonia in order to use her lightning magic, and creating large gemstones magically the way she did. These aren't really explained, so I'm going to say they're the same principle as the energy balls, but shaped in a different
obsessiveway.
