Kirby and the Amazing Labyrinth Friend Rescue - Chap. 7: The True Battle Begins with Copy Abilities!
Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Taranza all desperately staved off Magolor's fierce attacks, dragging out the fight. To the four of them, it seemed as if they were fighting for ages. But in reality, it had only been a few minutes or so.
At last, someone rolled back out of the mirror. It was a creature that looked like a large insect, covered in a hard carapace. Waddle Dee also jumped out from behind him.
"I brought someone—! It's Hornhead!"
"Took ya long enough, Waddle Dee! What was the holdup!?" King Dedede sounded scolding, but he couldn't hide the relief on his face.
Hornhead was protected all over with a defensive shell, like a great big bug. Like his name suggested, his head ended in an imposing horn. He swiped the air wildly with that horn in a proud display, raising his voice. "Kept you waiting, did I? Well, sit back and relax! Now that I'm on the scene, it doesn't matter how tough they are! I'll take 'em out in one attack!"
"I'm sorry, Hornhead. You won't be the one fighting today," said Meta Knight.
Hornhead stared blankly back at him. "Say what? Whassat supposed to mean? This pipsqueak said you all needed my power. He went out of his way to get me and everything, right…?"
While Hornhead was still puzzled, Kirby ran over, eyes sparkling. "Finally! A copy ability—! Thanks, Hornhead!"
"Uh?"
"Lend me your strength!"
Kirby inhaled deeply. Hornhead, blinking rapidly in surprise, was pulled up off the ground.
"Wah, whoaaaaa?! Wh-What're you doing! Stoooooop!"
His resistance was futile. Kirby sucked Hornhead up into his mouth. At once, he transformed. Kirby now had the same hard horn that Hornhead had.
"Yessss! Now I can use the Beetle copy ability!"
"That's great, Kirby!" Waddle Dee jumped for joy. "Now you can fight! Do your best!"
"Yeah! Thanks, Waddle Dee! Leave it to me!" Kirby struck a heroic pose, before glaring up at Magolor. "Now the counterattack really begins! Let's go~! Take this Rocket Horn!"
Kirby dashed towards Magolor with ferocious speed. This was a powerful move, that plunged a sharp horn hard into an opponent. Most enemies would go down with just one hit from a move like this.
But…
"Hmmmmm? What was that, Kirby? Don't you know I'm ticklish?"
It had no effect at all on Magolor. Just like with everything else, he laughed obnoxiously, looking down on Kirby.
His body was simply too large. Beetle was a strong copy ability, but no amount of attacks from its sharp horn could pierce Magolor the way he currently was. At best, it would be about as effective as a mosquito bite.
Kirby was starting to panic. "Ey! Horn Upper! Horn Flurry! Back Slash!" He threw out attack after attack, but Magolor didn't react to any of them.
Magolor's only response was to keep laughing his head off, sounding cheerful. "It's no use, Kirby. I'm invincible. I'm the strongest in the universe!"
Magolor swung his hands around, as if to grab Kirby. It was all Kirby could do to keep running away from his clutches.
"This is bad. Beetle won't have any effect on Magolor as he is now," shouted Meta Knight. "Waddle Dee, bring us something else! Something that can stand up to Magolor!"
"Uh… Yeah… Ummmm…"
"We'll buy time! Go!"
"Y-Yes, sir!"
Waddle Dee jumped back into Mirra's mirror.
The next person who rolled out of the mirror was—
"Aha! Sorry to keep you waiting! The great Spynum has just arrived!"
A small creature wearing a stylish red hat, carrying a bow and arrow. Spynum twirled and gave a deliberate wink, as Waddle Dee gave his report.
"I brought someone! It's the expert archer, Spynum!"
"Hmm, good." Meta Knight sounded more upbeat. "A bow and arrow can attack even targets that are high up. This might work."
"All riiiight…!" Kirby, who had been getting worn out from the constant dodging of Magolor's attacks, felt reinvigorated by the news. With a quick spin, he discarded his Beetle ability. Hornhead made his escape, dazed. "Thanks, Hornhead! See ya! Now…"
Kirby turned towards his new target.
"Thanks for coming, Spynum. Lend me your strength!"
"Of course! Now that I'm here, it's almost as if you have the strength of a hundred men on your side! I'll show you my very special technique…"
Spynum's prideful gloating trailed off as he noticed Kirby approaching closer and closer. His face took on a different color.
"Huh? What? Hold on, what, what kind of expression is that? D-Don't tell me you're going to…!"
Kirby walked towards Spynum, first letting out a deep breath in preparation. Spynum now looked very pale. He tried to back up, but of course, it was impossible for him to escape the range of Kirby's inhalation.
"Thanks, Spynum—!"
"Whaaaat! Save meeeee!"
Spynum was flung up into the air as he screamed, before finally being sucked up by Kirby.
This was the Archer copy ability. Just like Spynum, Kirby was now decked out in a hat and a bow.
Waddle Dee began to applaud in approval. "So cool! Do your best, Kirby!"
"Yeah! This time, we've got it! Let's gooo!"
Kirby nocked an arrow, and pulled the bowstring back as far as it would go. "Eeeey! Snipe Shot!" The arrow sliced through the air at full force.
However…
"Hmmmm? Oh, stop, Kirby. I told you, I'm ticklish!" Magolor shook all over with laughter.
Even the most powerful arrow, fired at top performance, only reached the very bottom of Magolor's body. It didn't leave a single scratch behind.
"Magic-Star Arrow! Arrow Slash! Leaping Quiver!"
Kirby kept attacking, but it had absolutely no effect.
Meta Knight's voice was stiff when he spoke. "Even Archer cannot reach him… Exactly what copy ability are we meant to use in this situation…?!"
Waddle Dee watched over Kirby's battle, fretting. Neither Beetle's strong horn, nor Archer's arrows, could get through to Magolor as he currently was. "What should we do? What copy ability could we use to beat Magolor? Something stronger than Beetle, that go up even higher than Archer…? Mmnnn… Nnnnn…!"
He racked his brain for a solution, but he wasn't coming up with anything.
"Magolor's just too big! There's no copy ability that could possibly work on someone that size…!"
Then, suddenly—Waddle Dee thought of something.
"Something that could work on someone who's too big… What if… I think this could work!"
Waddle Dee ran back towards Mirra. King Dedede saw him go past, shouting, "Bring something useful this time! The strongest one they got!"
Waddle Dee did not answer. Wordlessly, he leapt into the mirror.
The team of four kept jumping around, switching locations at a dizzying pace, trying to confuse Magolor. But by now, they were at their limit. Their stamina had run out before Magolor's had. Their movements began to slow down. Everyone was short of breath.
Magolor, seeing this, dropped all the playfulness from his expression. "You're all boring. I'm tired of this game now."
"…!"
"Let's call it here! I win! You first, Kirby. I'll crush you before everyone else!"
The shadow of Magolor's giant hand fell over Kirby.
